SUBURBAN WILDLIFE - Feature Film

PRESS FOR SUBURBAN WILDLIFE

SEPTEMBER 2019 - The Curb - Suburban Wildlife Film Review

Suburban Wildlife is low-fi storytelling delivered by knowing storytellers. Nina, Louise, Alice, and Kane, are inhabited characters who are real and lived in. They exist outside of the screen, they walk amongst us. The fact that directors like Imogen McCluskey, Lucy Coleman, and Steve Jaggi, are pushing these stories out on miniscule budgets, under $4000 here, a crowdfunded $3000 there, and creating such vivid portraits of suburban life, is impressive.

There’s a minor revolution occurring in the world of hyper-independent Australian cinema, and it’s taking place in the suburbs of Sydney at the hands of filmmakers with a few bucks to their name. Keep an eye on this world, there is great stuff coming…

SEPTEMBER 2019 - AACTA - Festival Conversations: Green Shoots

A modern Australian coming of age story is a rare treat in an industry that’s slightly fatigued by static nostalgia, often in the shape of lava lamps, burnt-orange trinkets, Tupperware, fondue forks and vintage eskys. The safe, less courageous, inclination is to remain self-referential, looking back at the ‘glory days’ rather than facing the future and all it invites. So, it’s refreshing to see green shoots bursting through in the form of three outstanding feature films in competition for the 2019 ACCTA awards, BILCHED, SUBURBAN WILDLIFE (Imogen McCluskey) and SEQUIN IN A BLUE ROOM (Samuel Van Grinsven)… READ MORE
